How it Began

Waveline Collective was founded by artists Megumi Kean, Sarah Caudle, and Nicole Nicholson after seeing how challenging it can be to thrive in Hawai‘i’s art world.

They created Waveline to empower emerging and underserved artists with the skills, resources, and opportunities to build sustainable careers. Through workshops, mentorship, grants, exhibitions, and collaborations, Waveline helps artists grow professionally, share their work, and strengthen Hawai‘i’s creative community.

The Meaning Behind Our Name

Waveline Collective evokes a sense of movement, flow, and connection—much like the waves of the ocean. Just as waves connect distant shores, we unite artists as a collective force to grow, collaborate, and thrive, harnessing creativity, inspiration, and knowledge to spark positive change and make a lasting impact in art and beyond.

Waveline:  A waveline is the line along which waves travel or break, symbolizing the ongoing flow and dynamic energy of the ocean. Representing the fluidity, momentum, and ripple effect of creative energy, Waveline Collective seeks to build momentum for artists, fostering innovation and growth, much like waves moving across the ocean.

Collective: This emphasizes the power of community, with artists coming together to support each other and work toward common goals. It’s about collaboration, sharing knowledge, and amplifying voices through mutual support.
